It’s so good to be back!!
First live music gig that I’ve been to in about 16 months, and what a way to get back to it. Out at The Musician to see Siobhan Mazzei and MuddiBrooke.
I’ve been to a few burlesque shows while restrictions have been in place, one last Halloween, and then a couple more recently at the beginning of July, but as they are normally sit down shows anyway, the main difference was there being fewer people there. There have been some live music shows popping up recently, but until the latest restrictions were lifted, I haven’t been to any as sitting down and not being able to sing along, cheer or make any noise just wouldn’t feel right.
It was a late decision by me to go along to this show, I bought my ticket only a couple of days before, and that may be the case for a lot of things going forward, not knowing what restrictions may change, it can be hard to make plans too far in advance.
I arrived at The Musician and immediately met a few people I know and haven’t seen in over a year, so chatted to them for a while before meeting up with a few others. I tried to stay nearer to the stage, knowing I would spend most of the evening there, not wanting to keep just walking around the venue. Before I knew it, Siobhan and the band were heading up to the stage and I was about to hear my first live music at a local venue for what has been too long.
With only two bands playing at the show, each of them had plenty of time, so while an opening band would usually have a short time slot, it was effectively a full set from both bands. I knew more songs from Siobhan Mazzei, as I’ve seen her perform solo and with a band countless times, but this was my first MuddiBrooke gig and for good reason, as they later mentioned that this was their first gig. Forming at the beginning of 2020, they obviously haven’t been able to do live shows until very recently and it was a fantastic performance.
Time flew by and the gig was over, but it was just amazing to be back out with some form of normality beginning to resume. I’ve really missed live music and while it’s still going to be a bit different in the coming months, hopefully we are on the right track and we can stay safe while enjoying the things we love, and live music is definitely one of those things.
I’m already looking forward to my next gig, and I don’t even know what that is going to be yet.
