What’s this then, a live burlesque show in 2020?
You read that right, we were allowed back out, for what turned out to be one night only, to have a live Glitterbug burlesque Halloween show at Firebug in Leicester.
This was obviously a very different show to previous Glitterbugs, but it was nice to see people back on that stage with a live audience, even if the Zoom shows have been well received and very entertaining.
Right up until the day before the show, I still didn’t know if I would be attending or not. When the show was first announced, there was obviously a lot of confusion...
Unfortunately there are still no live events available to be photographed but I’m keeping busy with some solo shoots and some socially distanced events
I worked with Katie on a solo shoot, continuing with a few personal projects. We worked with sheer fabrics, coloured gels and everything in between to create some fantastic images. Awesome working with Katie and already thinking of what we could do on our next shoot.
Another solo shoot at PGD, this time working with one of my favorite burlesque performers, Lily Lustre.
One shoot with The Photography Social, working with Taylor on a wedding...
Back to the more bullet point oriented posts for a bit, as things are starting to open up and I’m back out at a few more events, so time is limited.
I worked with Jadah on a shoot based around coloured gels. Building on a shoot I did last month, still experimenting on some setups and seeing what works and what I can change to improve things
A few shoots for my headshot project, working with Poppy, Taylor and Nathan. Same as previous shoots on this, working in a location close by and looking for around 3-4 different backdrops locally to work with. We even managed to get a couple of images...
When I first started writing this blog it was kind of like an online diary, with me writing about all things photography that I participated in. More recently I got a bit behind with my writing and months would go by and I wouldn’t be up to date, then with me not wanting to write out of order, things would never get done. I decided to turn my blog posts into bullet points, so I could mention everything I did in the month, include some photos, and get the posts out regularly. With the global pandemic giving me a bit more time, I decided to go back to writing more, but once again as things...
June has been a bit more normal in regards to shooting, in certain aspects. While the country is still in Lockdown, sticking to the guidelines provided, I’ve managed to continue with one more shoot for my headshot project, as well as going along to a few group shoots that have started back up again. Obviously there have been no gigs to go along to, and I can’t see there being any for quite a while yet, but at least I have had a reason to take my camera out of it’s bag on a few more occasions this month.
Continuing on with my headshot project, I arranged a shoot with Claudia, who I’ve...
Another strange month, but at least there was a bit of normality for me towards the end as I did manage to get out and do some kind of mini shoots, but we’ll come onto that.
I’ll start with something where I didn’t get my camera out, but I did see someone post an editing technique which produces a kind of glitchy effect that looked kind of cool. Not being able to go out and shoot some new images to try this effect on, I looked back in the archives for a few photos that I thought would work well and gave it a go. Some came out better than others, and it’s not an editing technique I’ll...
It has been a strange month for everyone, and for the first time in years I went for a few weeks without even touching my camera. Wanting to do something with my camera, I looked out one evening when it was starting to get dark and saw that there were very few clouds in the sky, so it would be great to take some photos of the stars. Not living in the best place to take photos of the night sky due to light pollution, and but not being able to travel anywhere, I did the best I could. It wasn’t really about the quality of photos, more just something to get the camera out of its bag.
After using...
My first shoot in March was with a model I’ve worked with many times before, and got some fantastic images to show from our shoots, Nico Dee. However, it wasn’t just Nico this time as Bane (her dog) was also in the studio for the shoot. Another wonderful shoot with great images of Nico, Bane and both of them together.
Up next was an event with Meadows Camera Club, and our model for the evening was Amy. No specific theme, but we went for a darker look to the images and ended up getting the smoke machine out for the final setup.
Two ‘Creative Photography Events’ up next with the first...
I had a photoshoot with one of my favourite burlesque performers, Lux DeLioux, and we created some awesome images
Creative Photography Events had an event titled ‘Shadows and Light’, mainly using items placed in front of lights to create some interesting shadows either on the model or background.
With the nights staying lighter for longer, I wanted to go out and do some wire wool spinning, so went out with a few other photographers with the plan of scouting some locations to use on some events in the next few weeks
Another photoshoot working with a burlesque performer, this time...

A workshop with Shawn Bishop teaching and Charliee as the model, on lighting for nude images
At Click Group Shoots there was an evening doing light painting with a model
The SoapGirls had their tour finale at The Trades in Rotherham, it got a bit messy

I’ve been slacking recently with these blog posts, so at the times I’ve not really wanted to write much, I’ve left them to come back to later on and then it just doesn’t happen. Going forward I’m going to basically list the events I went along to and took photos at, and if I get the urge to write about it then I will, otherwise it’ll just be left with the event title, so that I don’t fall too far behind.
The Soapgirls gig at The Esquires in Bedford
Meadows camera club, subject of bearded gentlemen
The Photography Social with a Tribal Warriors theme
Working with Misty...
August started off with me going along to The Photography Social, with the theme of the night being ‘Pink’. We had a mixture of pink clothing, makeup, backdrops, lighting and props to create images filled with pink. The model for this event was Charlotte, and we created some great images.
Next up was an evening at The Attic with the shoot titled ‘It’s a Wrap’. The idea of this night was that the model, Lasma, would be wrapped in various different items, starting with packaging paper, them bubble wrap, finishing with a black kind of cling film type thing (I didn’t see the wrapping...
